Villu Veski, a saxophonist and composer, was born on 19th January
1962 on the western Estonian island of Muhu. He studied at the Estonian
Academy of Music and was the first saxophonist to acquire a classical
education in music. He also studied the same in France.
As a jazz musician Veski has founded four groups: Villu Veski Quartet,
1985; Avicenna, 1987; Saxappeal Band, 1992 and the Tallinn Saxophone
Quartet, 1982. "Sounds of the Nordic Islands", a Nordic
ethno-jazz project, began in 1998. Over the years Villu Veski has
toured almost all European countries, parts of the former Soviet
Union and North America.
Villu Veski teaches at the Estonian Academy of Music and the Viljandi
Cultural College.
Since 1997 Villu Veski has been organizing the MUHU
FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL "JUU JÄÄB", to be
held for the sixth time this summer.
Villu Veski has composed music for films, theatre, commercials,
Discovery Travel Channel programmes and for the documentary "A
Journey through Estonia" created by the NDR TV-channel,
with himself as the leading character.
