IX International Muhu Future Music Festival "Juu Jääb" is an annual
festival since 1997. Over the years it has changed to modern cultural
event, where futuristic musical project is added more and more visual art as
well. The festival has become the realization place for the musical and
audiovisual ideas. New audiovisual projects, which might not even have genre
names, are presented in our forefathers ancient grounds where the new
musical traditions are tied with the old artistic expressions.
Concerts at the festival as well as the movie programs and sessions are
held at Muhumaa's historic places - Muhu's St Catherine's Church, Nautse
Mihkli's farm yard and at Padaste manor and in Koguva village.
IX International Muhu Future Music Festival "Juu Jääb..." takes place from
30th of June until 03rd of July.
"Juu Jääb..." basic idea and goal is to keep Muhu's fragile but
meaningful cultural heritage alive and to develop and exhibit it. Within nine
years the festival has become the keeper of the local culture and magnifier
of the local spiritual climate. Festival is meant for all who enjoy the
authentic and safe surroundings of the island Muhu where they can listen to
the best classical, jazz and worldmusic artists. At the Festival "Juu
Jääb..." there have been performing artists from Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden,
USA, Denmark, Ethiopia, Australia, Germany, Russia, France, Brazil, Mongolia
and from Estonia.
Concert project, which included 8 artists in 1997 and which people
christened as "Juu Jääb..." , has become an international festival where 76
artists took part in 2004. Over all more than 400 internationally proclaimed
artists have performed at the festival.
DVD "8 Years of Music Festivals in Muhu" gives an overview of the
festival years and the partners. It includes footage and audio recordings,
open air and church concerts, photo galleries, press overviews and also
introduces partners. Audience has had the opportunity to enjoy the festival
through different mediums such as through the state owned television ETV,
over the radio at the Classical radio and through live broadcast over the
internet.
In cooperation with Pärnu's International Documentary and Anthropology
Film Festival "Juu Jääb 2005" offers the audience as a new possibility to
see quality movies at the open air cinema, where the theme is African
rhythms and colors. It is planned to develop further the master development class, which takes
place in the island Muhu from 30th of June until 3rd of July, and in Pärnu
and in Manija from the 4th of July until the 10th of July. The purpose of
the master development class is further advance the rhythm senses of the
movie makers and for the musicians to visualize their creation. In other
words, in the master development class, which is directed by renowned
musicians and filmmakers, the audio and film art becomes intertwined. The
high point of the master development class is the improvisation contest on
the 9th of July in Pärnu.
